MT. HOPE 'S SCHOOL-WIDE EXPECTATIONS FOR GRADUATION
In response to the R.I. Board of Regents' High School Regulations, Mt. Hope has developed a new proficiency based diploma that incorporates the traditional Carnegie Unit requirements with proficiency-based graduation requirements in the following areas: ELA, Mathematics, Science, Social Studies, the Arts and Technology. Students will show evidence of proficiency in the PBGR, as well as in an area of specialized interest on their Digital Portfolio. The elements that will be included for Mt. Hope High School students are: •1. Completion of 23 Carnegie Units (credits) •2. Completion of the Proficiency Graduation Requirements (PBGRs) •3. Completion of the New England Common Assessment Program (NECAP) •4. Creation and Maintenance of the Individual Learning Plan (ILP) 1.CARNEGIE UNIT REQUIREMENTS Carnegie units represent the measurement of a courses value. One unit courses meet continuously for the entire school year. A semester course is valued at .5 unit. All students must pass (65% or above) the following units of coursework in order to graduate:

English 4 Social Studies 3 Mathematics 4 Science 3 Physical Education/Health 2 Electives from any of department at Mt. Hope High School 7* Total Units 23 * Students must demonstrate proficiency in the Fine Arts; therefore, at least 1 elective credit must be in this area
2. PROFICIENCY-BASED GRADUATION REQUIREMENTS (PBGRS)
Students must also demonstrate proficiency in all of Mt. Hope's PBGRs by providing the required number and types of artifacts as evidence prior to graduation. All artifacts must be one of the following types of assessments: Common Tasks (CT), Performance Tasks (PT), State Assessment results (SA), End of Course Assessments (ECA), or Products, Projects or Performances (PPP) completed outside of school which are assessed by faculty or administration using Mt. Hope's school wide rubrics. Students will show evidence of proficiency in all of Mt. Hope's PBGRs through multiple measures in their digital portfolios and on End of Course Assessments (ECAs).

3.COMPLETION OF THE NEW ENGLAND COMMON ASSESSMENTS
Students must complete the NECAP in Math, English, & Science according to the time table determined by the Board of Regents for Elementary & Secondary Education. These assessment results will be included on the student transcripts. Students may choose to use these results as evidence of proficiency in the PBGRs. Students must indicate how the result is aligned to the PBGRs and reflect upon the work.
4. CREATION AND MAINTENANCE OF AN INDIVIDUALIZED LEARNING PLAN Each student will create an ILP with the assistance & support from the Guidance Department, parents & members of the Mt. Hope Community. This process is accessible through the digital portfolio. Students will demonstrate proficiency in an area of specialized interest that is linked to the Individual Learning Plan (ILP), extends learning and incorporates the applied learning skills. This will be the focus of the Senior Portfolio Review. | ||
